01Project overview & context
Project summary
SgurrEnergy provided corrosion assessment for Confidential's 300 MW solar pv assignment in Jagaluru, Davangere, Karnataka, India. The work addressed corrosion assessment and translated the available project, site and environmental evidence into engineering and risk-management inputs. The assignment supported clearer identification of constraints, better-informed project decisions and a traceable basis for the applicable mitigation, resilience, design or infrastructure-protection measures.
Project context
The assignment related to Atmospheric Corrosion Assessment for 300MW Solar PV Plant at Jagaluru, Davangere, Karnataka, India in Jagaluru, Davangere, Karnataka, India. SgurrEnergy was engaged during the stated 2024 - 2025 period to provide corrosion assessment. The work was intended to establish reliable project evidence, identify site and lifecycle constraints, and provide recommendations that could be used by the client and its engineering stakeholders. The source track record does not state the project phase, contractual boundaries or current development status; these items require confirmation before publication.
Client objectives
- Characterise atmospheric and/or soil conditions relevant to infrastructure durability.
- Classify the applicable corrosion environment using the stated international standards.
- Evaluate material degradation and, where applicable, sand-abrasion exposure.
- Recommend proportionate corrosion-prevention and mitigation measures.
Key challenges & considerations
Environmental Exposure
Atmospheric pollutants, moisture, soil characteristics and local exposure conditions can materially affect long-term performance of metallic infrastructure.
Data and Classification
Available environmental and soil evidence must be translated into a consistent corrosion category and design basis.
Lifecycle Protection
Protection systems need to balance durability, inspection, maintenance and project-specific exposure.
02Scope & delivery
Independent engineering role
SgurrEnergy's role
SgurrEnergy acted as the Project Coordinator for the assignment. The team coordinated the applicable environmental, social, survey, hydrology, geotechnical, corrosion, climate or engineering inputs and converted the findings into structured technical outputs. The role supported the client's decision-making while maintaining traceability between available evidence, identified risks and recommended actions.
Our technical approach
SgurrEnergy combined credible atmospheric, pollution, environmental and soil evidence with relevant regional research and project data. Exposure conditions were interpreted against ISO 9223 and ISO 9224 where applicable, and sand-abrasion effects were considered when included in scope. The resulting corrosion classification informed practical recommendations for material selection, coatings, protection systems, inspection and maintenance planning.
Principal deliverables
- Atmospheric and/or soil corrosion baseline assessment.
- Review of relevant environmental, soil and regional evidence.
- Corrosion category classification under ISO 9223 and/or ISO 9224, as applicable.
- Sand-abrasion assessment where included in the assignment.
- Corrosion prevention, material-protection and mitigation recommendations.

03Value & outcome
Value delivered
- Provided a project-specific basis for material and coating decisions.
- Improved visibility of long-term durability and maintenance risks.
- Supported appropriate protection measures for structural and underground components.
- Reduced reliance on generic corrosion assumptions not calibrated to site conditions.
Project outcome
The assignment provided Confidential with structured corrosion assessment outputs for the project in Jagaluru, Davangere, Karnataka, India. SgurrEnergy's work strengthened the evidence base for project planning and supported more informed decisions on the relevant environmental, social, resilience, site-development, foundation, drainage or durability considerations. The final website wording should be updated once the project stage, deliverable status and approved outcomes are confirmed.
