Zambia’s power sector is heavily dependent on hydroelectric generation, creating increasing risks due to climate variability.
Solar and battery storage are emerging as key solutions to address power deficits and improve grid stability.
Developers, investors, and lenders require bankable technical validation to ensure project success.
Zambia’s power system is undergoing rapid change, with increasing focus on solar and storage deployment alongside existing generation capacity.
Project timelines are shortening, and investment decisions are being made earlier in the development cycle.

This increases the need for:

  • reliable feasibility inputs
  • realistic technical assumptions
  • independent review of project risks

SgurrEnergy supports Developers, investors, and lenders in making technically sound decisions across these stages

Who We Are

SgurrEnergy is a global renewable energy consultancy, operating exclusively in renewables for over two decades. We work independently with developers, investors, lenders, and utilities, engineering-driven advice that supports informed decision-making across complex renewable energy projects—globally.

Our role is simple:
Reduce risk. Improve technical certainty. Strengthen project outcomes.

Q1. What technical studies are required before a renewable project proceeds?

Before any renewable project breaks ground, you’ll typically need a feasibility
study, an energy yield assessment, and grid connection analysis at minimum.
Most lenders also require environmental and social impact assessments,
geotechnical surveys, and bankability reviews. The exact requirements
depend on your technology, location, and financing route but skipping these
early studies almost always costs more later.

Q2. What does independent technical advisory include?

Independent technical advisory means getting expert engineering guidance. It
covers everything from feasibility and design review to construction oversight
and performance monitoring. The “independent” part matters most we don’t
sell equipment, neither partner with any organisation or take development
stakes, so our advice stays objective.

Q3. How does technical due diligence support financing decisions?

Technical due diligence gives lenders and investors the confidence to commit
capital. It independently verifies that a project’s design is sound, the energy
yield projections are realistic, the technology is proven, and the risks are
properly identified and mitigated. Without credible TDD, most institutional
finance simply won’t proceed it’s the foundation of every bankable project.

Q4. Can SgurrEnergy support solar and storage projects?

Absolutely, solar-plus-storage and standalone BESS projects are a growing
part of our work across Africa with 6GW capacity delivered for solar, wind,
BESS, and grid studies as well delivered 185+GW capacity delivered across

55 countries, globally. We provide the same full lifecycle support for storage
as we do for solar and wind: feasibility, technology selection, safety
assessment, construction oversight, and performance monitoring. Hybrid
configurations are increasingly common, and we’re set up to advise on the
integration.
